The Appeal of Hiking
Starting in late May, the season begins for hiking Mount Amari and Mount Kayagatake, known for their carpets of azaleas. This time of year, when the fresh greenery is at its most beautiful, offers the perfect opportunity to refresh yourself in nature. Hiking in the cool morning and evening air, in particular, is sure to be a pleasant experience. Please come and see the spectacular views of fresh greenery and azaleas set against the backdrop of the Yatsugatake Blue.
The Joy of Fishing
The fishing season for ayu (sweetfish) opens on Saturday, June 6, in the Shio River, which flows right in front of HIKE. In the mountainous areas, you can also enjoy stream fishing for iwana and yamame. Sarashina Bridge, located near the facility, is a prime spot for catching ayu. Enjoying a day of fishing in nature with family and friends is sure to create wonderful memories.
Harvesting Fresh Vegetables
In HIKE’s vegetable garden, we’re busy transplanting summer vegetables such as onions, stick celery, and turnips. This year, we’re also growing pumpkins, watermelons, eggplants, tomatoes, peanuts, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and cucumbers. Just let us know when you’re having a BBQ, and we’ll prepare dishes using fresh vegetables harvested right from our garden.
As temperatures in Japan rise year after year, we’re really feeling the challenges of growing vegetables. In particular, winter vegetables planted in the summer—such as napa cabbage and cabbage—can sometimes wither in the heat. Even after replanting several times and finally getting them to grow, the growing season can be off, leading to a poor harvest. For open-field cultivation, we’re faced with choices like switching what we grow or using varieties that have been bred to withstand the heat.
Best Time to Visit
If you’re looking to be active, we recommend visiting in May, June, or from late October through mid-December, rather than during the height of summer when temperatures approach 40 degrees. During these periods, the weather is pleasant and ideal for enjoying outdoor activities.
Please come visit Nirasaki. Experience the beauty of nature while enjoying easy hikes in the crisp morning and evening air.
